Man on a Mission!
By Sammy Romero
Missions has completely transformed my life! The changes I’ve experienced are so incredible, it’s hard to even imagine my life before.
All my life I struggled with anxiety. For 26 years I worried and stressed over everything, to the point where I would sometimes get physically sick. I was anxious about the little things in my daily life and the world and all its problems. Throughout college and graduate school I felt the full weight of the world’s expectations of me as a man to work for and desire something that I didn’t even believe in: the “American Dream.” Proverbs 12: 25 says “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down,” and that’s exactly how I’d always felt. I was weighed down and chained up by anxiety.
In missions I have found freedom! Freedom from anxiety. Freedom from worldly expectations. Freedom to live the life that God has planned for me; one in which I feel fulfillment and purpose. Now when I feel worn down and dead tired at the end of a long day, I know that it has eternal significance, not just a fleeting feeling of satisfaction. There’s nothing better than knowing that what I’m working for day-in and day-out is meaningful and literally life-changing for others.
I have surrendered my life to God’s will for me and my family, and now I let Him worry about the rest. He has never failed, not once! He not only provides what we need, but He gives us the desires of our hearts. Missions has truly transformed my life and made me a better man, and I could not imagine ever going back. Fellow men: the world needs us to radically think outside of the 9 to 5. Is God calling you to a life of freedom and fulfillment in missions? Be man enough to find out!
